弦に使用されている合金は、不純物を除去するため鉱石の段階から精錬することからスタートします。その後、材料は冷却されワイアー状に成形されます。コバルト・スリンキー、M-Steelスリンキー、アルミニウム・ブロンズ弦に使用されるアーニーボール独自の合金は最大のパフォーマンスと安定性を確実にするため仕様書に対して厳格に精錬されているのです。
アーニーボール弦は最高の品質で最も新鮮な材料からできており、それらは厳格な基準で選定されています。弦はスプールに巻かれたワイアーで構成されています。弦のタイプによってワイアーの材料とサイズを選定しています。
ギター/ベース弦のボールエンドはブラス・ワイアー・ロッドでできています。ピッタリフィットして確実に機能させるためにブラスはスペック通りに機械でカットされます。ボールエンドは弦とマッチングする前にバリを削除され洗浄されます。
巻弦は芯線と巻線で構成されています。芯線は6角形状のワイアーを決められた長さにカットし、その片方を特定された形状によじり、ボールエンドを装着して作られます。その後、芯線はワインディング・マシンにセットされ、そこで芯線を回転させながら芯線の周りに巻線を巻いていくのです。
コーテッド弦はアーニーボール独自のナノテクノロジーを使ってコート処理を行います。弦は束状で処理室にセットされ、そこで表面を整えてコート処理が行われます。
全ての原材料と弦は多数の箇所で行われる検査をパスせねばなりません。アーニーボールの弦は製造工程から袋詰の工程まで繰り返し検査が行われます。
アーニーボールの弦はゲージごと個別に巻かれて弦袋に入れられます。そして、スリンキー・セットは気密性の高いフォイル・パックに入れる工程に進みます。
弦のセットはエレメント・シールドを使ってパッケージされます。そのパッケージは外部から確実に遮断する腐食しないフィルムでできています。
パッケージされた弦セットは加圧型の水槽を使ってパッケージ接着部のチェックが行われ、そこで接着部のあらゆる箇所にストレスを与えていきます。こうすることによって確実にパッケージは完全に空気を遮断し接着部の品質が最適になるのです。
パッケージと検査が済めばただちに、最後の工程です。弦をカートン箱に詰めて世界中のミュージシャンに演奏されるために出荷されるのです。
